A group of listeners of Family Radio, a Christian radio show out of Oakland, were prompted a few months ago by the radio host, and religious leader/prophet Harold Camping, to go around the country warning people about the so-called rapture. Many followers left everything behind, including families, and did just that. And according to them, this rapture event is supposed to take place today, May 21, 2011!
The “rapture” is not part of Catholic teaching, although we (catholics) do acknowledge the reality of the event St. Paul mentions in 1 Thessalonians 4:17, it is seen as occurring at the Second Coming of Christ at the end of the world, not before an earthly millennium. Catholics do not separate the resurrection of the just and the reprobate, nor the final tribulation and the Lord’s coming.
